A brilliant new find. A lookalike Chateauneuf du Pape from a neighbouring appellation, made by brothers Laurent & Julien Brechet.
Lirac lies just to the west of Chateauneuf du Pape, across the river Rhone - with similar stony soils over red clay. It has been very overshadowed by its larger famous neighbour, but is now being revived by passionate young winemakers like the Brechets. This lush succulent red has fragrant red fruit aromas with herby undertones, soft, smooth tannins and sweet spice undertones on the mid-palate, with an elegant long finish.
Such good value. A delicious Sunday lunch red to serve with roast lamb.
