MEET THE WINEMAKER: ANDY SMITH of DuMOL
in association with Raeburn Fine Wines
FRIDAY 9 APRIL 2021 6.30PM
Join our fun interactive MW-led tasting focusing on one of California's most exciting artisan wine estates in beautiful Russian River Valley area of Sonoma.
Meet winemaker & viticulturalist Scots-born Andy Smith of DuMOL winery (pictured above showing off his 2019 grapes when we visited him during vintage).
Taste four sensational wines from different grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from their exceptional collection of vineyards.
DuMOL wines have been regularly served at various events in The White House for President Bush & President Obama - and enjoyed by the Queen Mother.
They are constantly rated by critics as one of the top Californian Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers - and their Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are also very impressive.
The image below depicts Moon Mountain in Sonoma - we will be tasting DuMOL's Cabernet Sauvignon from Monticello Vineyard.
Andy Smith has been both winemaker and viticulturalist at DuMOL since 2000 - and is now partner in the winery. He was born in Edinburgh and studied oenology & viticulture at Lincoln University in New Zealand. He worked with Dr Neil McCallum at Dry River in Martinborough in New Zealand, before moving to Sonoma in California to work for Ted Lemon at Littorai and Paul Hobbs before joining DuMOL.
Founded in 1996, DuMOL is a vineyard focused producer of cool climate Pinot Noir & Chardonnay in the extreme southwestern part of Russian River valley. They also grow and craft small-lot Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from exceptional vineyard sites across Sonoma & Napa.
They create 23 different wines from 16 vineyards and seven appellation blends. What sets DuMOL apart from its peers is Smith's vineyard experience and his relentless experimentation to achieve perfection. DuMOL wines currently offer better value compared to top French classics.
The specially discounted tasting pack including delivery (£248) - which normally sells at £277 - includes four wonderfully mature wines from different Sonoma terroirs which have been selected by Andy specifically for this tasting:
Ritchie-Lorenzo Vineyards Chloe Chardonnay, Old Vines 2014
Estate Pinot Noir 2013
Russian River Valley Syrah 2013
Monticello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Moon Mountain 2016
The wines can be delivered anywhere on UK mainland - and delivery is included in the wine price (see below).
The tasting session will take place via Zoom. An invitation link from Rose will be emailed to you prior to the tasting with tasting mat, tasting sheet, simple instructions on how to prepare the wines & cheese matching suggestions (optional). The tasting will last at least one hour with a chance to learn about the wines, ask the winemaker questions directly and interact with other tasters. The aim is to have fun whilst learning about wines, in the safety of your own homes.
