An interesting new find from the Andes foothills in Uco Valley, Argentina. Here Malbec is dominant in the blend (85%), softened and fleshed out with a small % of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Bousquet family originate from Carcassonne in southern France. Jean Bousquet visited Argentina on holiday in 1990 and immediately invested, planting vineyards and building a winery high in the Andes at 1,200m. Tupungato, home to his vineyards, is well known for its wonderful diurnal temperatures with warm sunny days to ripen grapes and cool nights to retain acidity.
The founder Jean's daughter Anne and her husband moved to Argentina in 2009 to run the family's 240 hectare estate, which is farmed using organic viticulture.
Taste: Vibrant deep purple colour, good structure, ripe tannins, rich generous fleshy damson fruits and perfect acid balance. Well done team Bousquet.
